yields close-ups nearer than 3; feet. Any reduction frorr 1:17 to IQ is made
possible. Within this whole range the new large helical focusing mount for the
Leica ELMAR f/35 50 mm. makes extension tubes unnecessary. A focusing
magnifier helps to focus the image on a ground glass screen.
Additional 26 mm. extension tubes further extend this range to same size re-
productions and magnifications up to 2:1.
With long focus lenses normal pictures at infinity are also sossible (see page 4).
ITS MANY APPLICATION S INCLUDE:
Capying, commercial photography. botanical and zoological records;
Detailed studies of architectural and art subiects;
Medical work including forensic photography, surgery, pathology and anatomy.
histology and psychiatry. research into cell life, dental photography;
Documentation of criminal evidence;
Photomicrography;
Collecting illustrative material for teaching, archives, etc.:
Photographing coins and stamps;
Photomontoge;
Duplicating monochrome and colour transparencies;
Reducing large negatives (including Xoray films) to Leica size.
As there is a short time lag between focusing and exposure. the Focusing Stage
is mainly useful for inanimate subiects. For moving subiezts the Optical Near
Focusing Device NOOKV (with the ELMAR "35 50 mm. lens) or NOOKYHESUM
(with the SUMMAR and SUMMITAR ff? 50 mm. lenses) or the leica Mirror
Reflex Attachment with Universal Focusing Bellows are more suitable.THE SPECIAL ADVANTAGES OF THE FOCUSING STAGE
consist, besides its light weight, at the easy control the magnified screen image
gives over the field of view, illumination and depth of focus. This is particular-
ly important with close-ups.
The Focusing Stage consists of two parts. the base plate and the sliding stage. The
base plate carries a tripod bush and the lens mounting ring, while the sliding
stage, with its screen housing and a holder for the Leica, moves in dove-tail
guides mounted to the base plate.
Manipulation is simple and easy. The subject is focused on the ground glass
screen with the help of the 5x magnifier. The sliding stage with the Leica is
then moved sideways so that the film plane of the camera takes the place of
the screen. The position of the 24x36 mm. ground glass was identical with that
of the film plane in the camera, so that what was sharp on the ground glass
screen will also be sharp on the film. The negative is exposed in the normal
way with the leica shutter.
